Wave Organ

The Wave Organ is a wonderful piece of public art found at the end of a long thin strip of rocks near the San Francisco Yacht Club. Perfectly placed for its purpose and out of the way enough to be often vacant. Which is perfect for sound recording.

If you want to dive into the history of The Wave Organ (and you should) please visit both the Exploratorium page and the Atlas Obscura page. It is a publicly accessible (and ADA accessible!) and so worth a personal experience. But for those unable to travel directly to San Francisco to find it (hint: one of the few places with almost always available parking), here are some recordings I recently made but sticking a microphone into a few of the organ pipes.

Seems simple enough and I think it turned out great. Leave no trace.

Each track below is a few minutes from inside one of several organ pipes. Track #06 is just of the waves alone, as a sort of reference to what is making the noise in the previous tracks.

Enjoy!
