Black Lives Matter in Petaluma

Protest.

On Wednesday, June 3, 2020, students from Petaluma organized a march from Walnut Park to the Petaluma Police Department headquarters. They marched peacefully down the length of Petaluma Boulevard. As they arrived in front of the Police Department, the crowd swelled to 200, being led in chanting by Lilian McCoy.

The images and sounds were documented by Michael Woolsey (@heywools), Matt Sharkey (@mattsharkeyphoto) and Andy Sewell (@audioephemera).

With gratitude, we thank the organizers and attendees for their leadership.

Listen to the voices.

The voices of one of the organizers and another protestor were recorded as part as a separate project, the podcast Sheltering in Petaluma. One epsiode was focused on the youth organized protest. During a time when public health wisdom emplors us to stay home, these youth gather to stand for what they see as right and just.
